The village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger is at the core of Champagne's famed Côtes de Blancs region, where Chardonnay are entitled to Grand Cru status and are called Blanc de Blancs. One of the best-known villages in Côtes des Blancs, Le Mesnil hosts an exciting variety of exceptional estate Champagne winemakers like Bernard Launois. The house of Launois Père et Fils was founded in the village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in 1872. The most recent of the long line of Launois generations (8) producing great wines from their own vineyards, Bernard Launois is a "grower-producer," meaning he owns the vineyards, grows and harvests the fruit, and produces the Champagne on the property. It is in this way that we can say Launois Père & Fils creates exceptional, handmade wines that uniquely reveal the particular characteristics of the terroir of the estate vineyards, albeit along with a type of "house style" inflection by which we distinguish all grower-producers in Champagne from one another. Son Séverine and daughter Caroline have joined their father in the business, continuing this family's long commitment to and great passion for excellent hand-crafted, terroir-driven estate Champagne.
